Toowoomba Airport

Wagners

Toowoomba, NSW

Scope of Work

The Toowoomba airport is been dubbed the “Greenest airport” in the world. Dowsing NSW was engaged by Wagners to conduct a special trial to use their Geopolymer concrete for the airport taxiway scope

  • 20,000 m2 Slipform Pavement using a special “Green Geopolymer” concrete mix
  • 4.5m Wide

Highlights

by Wagners where the concrete material uses was a special geopolymer mix (Green & clean concrete) Slipforming of speciality designed concrete for the first time and addition of a vibrating beam on paver for finishing. 1 Lineal Metre / per minute

Early studies have found that Geopolymer concrete produces 50% less emissions than conventional concrete. This particular mix incorporated upcycled waste material in flyash from coal production and & slag from steel production. Unlike conventional concrete, Geopolymer concrete does not include the use of portland cement. During the making of Portland cement, Limestone needs to be calcified to “Clinker” – It is this process that creates carbon dioxide. Geopolymer concrete uses a substitute chemical activator binder in lieu clinker that makes it behave like conventional concrete.
