The works were undertaken within a highly regulated airside environment, requiring strict adherence to time restrictions, safety protocols, and return-to-service requirements to maintain operational continuity of airport infrastructure.
The scope of works primarily involved profiling existing runway and taxiway pavements to a nominal depth of 50mm, enabling same-shift asphalt reinstatement.

The total pavement area profiled included:
- Runways: approximately 392,000m²
- Taxiways: approximately 97,000m²
To meet program demands, Dowsing provided and operated a substantial plant fleet throughout the project, including 2m cold planers, 500mm “pocket rocket” profiling machines, and skid steer sweepers. Operations were scheduled seven days per week, with significant emphasis on resourcing flexibility to support both day and night shift requirements.
Works were delivered in close coordination with multiple contractors operating concurrently within the airside environment, including trucking, survey, asphalt, sealing, line marking, and electrical contractors. Dowsing’s crews integrated seamlessly into Fulton Hogan’s delivery team, supporting efficient shift-based production and return-to-service outcomes.
Dowsing also provided 24/7 on-call support over weekends for emergency airside works at the request of Perth Airport. This capability was activated on three occasions during the project, with resources mobilised promptly and without issue.
Through disciplined planning, scalable resourcing, and strong collaboration, Dowsing successfully delivered a high-volume, high-risk airside profiling scope within tight operational constraints. The project reinforced our capability to perform complex pavement profiling works in live, safety-critical environments while maintaining productivity, compliance, and program certainty.
