As part of the NSW Government’s broader initiative to improve regional transport infrastructure, the Kelso to Raglan section of the Great Western Highway underwent a significant upgrade aimed at enhancing safety, reducing congestion, and improving travel efficiency.

Dowsing was engaged to deliver critical civil works along this 10-kilometre stretch, contributing to the transformation of one of the region’s most vital transport corridors.

These works were delivered in coordination with broader upgrades including dual carriageways, traffic signals, and pedestrian infrastructure.

Duration

Construct Only

Dowsing Group’s scope of works included:

  • Kerb construction to support new road alignments and improve drainage.
  • Subsoil drainage systems to manage groundwater and extend pavement life.
  • Installation of pits and lintels for effective stormwater management.
  • No Fines Concrete (NFC) works, providing a permeable and durable solution for subgrade support and drainage.

Key Outcomes

The upgrade has delivered significant improvements in safety, travel efficiency, and community connectivity. Key outcomes include:

  • Dual lanes in both directions between Ashworth Drive and Napoleon Street.
  • Installation of 2,250 metres of concrete pipes and 52 stormwater pits.
  • A new shared footpath and improved landscaping.
  • Enhanced access to Bathurst Airport and reduced congestion.

The project required careful coordination to minimise disruption to traffic and local communities, especially during major events like the Bathurst 1000. Dowsing NSW worked closely with Transport for NSW and other contractors to maintain traffic flow and ensure safety.

Staged construction and night works were implemented to reduce delays, and temporary traffic arrangements ensured continued access for residents and businesses.

Dowsing’s contribution helped deliver a resilient, future-ready transport corridor that supports regional development and connectivity.
